Written by Ken Olson:
My father was Harold Olaf, Lilly's brother, and son of Olaf Ragnvald Olson.
Harold has three children, my sister Jane (Lee), who lives in
Jamestown, ND, overlooking Olaf's homestead on the James river, where Lilly
still resides. Jane is married to Boyd Lee, a farm implement mechanic in
Jamestown and they have two children, Vickie (19), and Thomas (15). Vickie
is in school in Detroit Lakes, MN, where she is studying to be an
Architectural Drafter, although I think they have a new and more technical
sounding name for it. Thomas is at Jamestown High School.
My brother, David, is an electrician, currently employed in Detroit Lakes,
MN. He's 2 years younger than I and is the outdoorsman that Grandpa Olson
seems to have been (from all accounts we've heard, anyway), hunting,
fishing, scuba diving, kayaking, skiing, and bicycling. Dave is single, but
is a great Uncle to Jane's kids, currently sharing rent with Vickie while
she's in school.
Harold was employed by Hubbard Milling Company, in a variety of occupations from Chemist, in 1954, to his retirement as Quality Control Manager, in 1987. He passed away in 1992, of complications from cancer, multiple myeloma. Dad retired to Park Rapids, Minnesota, intending to pursue his interests, duck hunting, fishing, cross-country skiing, and the variety of outdoor activities his father, Olaf Ragnvald exposed him to, in Dad's early years. Displaying what we've come to call Olson tenacity, Dad managed to enjoy most of his retirement outdoors, until a broken hip in February of 1992 forced him indoors and ultimately wound down to his passing in July of the same year. He made so many friends amongst the neighbors in Park Rapids.
