This oil painting, which I was told was either a Catherine Wiggs or painted by a Catherine Wiggs, was given to Bert Wiggs Sr. by his mother, Phoebe Wiggs, and hung in his house in Chattanooga during the 30s and 40s. Some time in the late 40s it was given to Henry Wiggs and hung in his house in Nashville. In the 50s Henry's wife, Lois, contacted Bert Wiggs, Jr. to see if he would like to have the picture since she thought that it should be handed down to a male member of the Wiggs family. Bert was unable to take the picture at that time so Carl went to Nashville and got the picture. It was so large that he had to bring it home on a train rather than flying back home. (Carl Wiggs) |
